Our VALUES

To the degree Christ Covenant Church fulfills its mission, we will affirm seven core values:

Worship. We will purposefully be a worshipping church where God is truly honored as we come into His presence. Our worship will be radically God-centered as we begin with the awesome God who is the omnipotent Creator of everything, who is above everything, below everything, in everything but not contained, holding all things together.
Prayer. We will build our lives and ministry, individually and corporately, on the Word of God and prayer. When God’s people come together in united and specific prayer — without exception — God hears, delivers, provides, empowers, and does whatever is needed to answer their requests.
Evangelism. We will be an evangelizing church where every member looks to bring others to Christ through his or her personal life and ministry. The “Good News” of Jesus Christ will be in everything we do!
Discipleship. The Word of God will be the centerpiece of our life and ministry together. A vital learning experience with His Word is crucial in our becoming a church where “every member is growing in Christ”.
Caring. Our attitude toward others will be that of our Lord’s: unconditional love, deep empathy, individual concern, a personal touch, and an invitation to follow Him.
Equipping. If we are going to measure up to God’s standard, we will be a church where all of God’s people carry on the ministry and every member is actively involved in reaching out to the community. Because God’s Spirit lives within us, wherever we go and whatever we do, Christ goes with us, and together we do the work of ministry.
Growth. Finally, Christ Covenant Church will purposefully be a growing church. As long as there are lost people in the world, we will be committed to growing numerically as well as spiritually.

These are the seven core values of our ministry. They are the posts on which our vision for ministry stands. They are what we strive to be and, by God’s grace, what we will become.

“Our mission is to help all men and women love and serve Jesus Christ through worship, study, training, and hands-on ministry in the community and the world.”

What We Believe

The Evangelical Covenant Church seeks to form and nurture communities that are deeply committed to Jesus Christ and passionately engaged in Christ’s mission in the world.

For Covenant people, our essential beliefs are summed up in what we call the Covenant Affirmations:

We affirm the centrality of the word of God.

We affirm the necessity of the new birth.

We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the Church.

We affirm the Church as a fellowship of believers.

We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit.

We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ.

The purpose of Covenant affirmations is to make clear the values and principles that have guided the Evangelical Covenant Church since its founding in 1885.

++++++

The Evangelical Covenant Church is a rapidly growing multiethnic denomination in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents of the world. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the ECC values the Bible as the word of God, the gift of God’s grace and ever-deepening spiritual life that comes through a faith with Jesus Christ, the importance of extending God’s love and compassion to a hurting world, and the strength that comes from unity within diversity.

The Evangelical Covenant Church is:

Evangelical, but not exclusive

Biblical, but not doctrinaire

Traditional, but not rigid

Congregational, but not independent

We are united by Christ in a holy covenant of churches empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey the great commandments and the great commission: to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to go into all the world and make disciples.

We covenant:

To cultivate communities of worship committed to: prayer, preaching, and study of the word; the celebration of the sacraments; and fellowship across gender, race, age, culture, and class.

To equip loving, giving, growing Christians to reach out with the good news of Jesus Christ – evangelizing the lost, ministering to those in need, and seeking justice for the oppressed.
